A significant proportion of textiles can continue to serve their purpose—provided they enter an effective system of collection, sorting, and subsequent reuse.
While the European Union is preparing an extended producer responsibility system for textiles, the existing infrastructure for collection, sorting and reuse is coming under growing pressure from cheap fast fashion, declining input quality and rising operating costs.
